Today the year 12's started to create their collage that will be used to contribute to their ideation for their pavilion projects. I found that this was a great activity for the students and gave a few of the kids an opportunity to cut and paste their way to a finished page for their process.

Even some of the students who had not achieved anything all year, managed to create a collage quickly and effectivly. It was nice to see a bit of pride.

Anyway, I think that in future, this project can be better managed at this early stage. After a few of the students finished their collages and started on their ideation, they fell flat while creating concepts. This was becuase they had so much momentum and support during the collage stage (maybe too much) and once that was removed and replaced with freedom they were thrown.

So in future, after the collage, we will do a mutitude of exercises to support the ideation stage:

- tracing paper on top of the collage to promote direct shape and line transfer

- once there are shapes taken from the collage, students will have speed sketching to move these sketches into a more conceptual space

- once a concept is formed, students will be asked to select a word from the development guide (tesselate, orientate, exaggerate etc) and apply that to their design for the exploration of design ideas stage

- then, once a shape has been played with this heavily, then the concept can be futhur manipulated and clarified
