Brian Green visit - Monday Nov 9

Brian Green came to visit out department. He is a man of great Technology curriculum knowledge. Brian is interested in helping our department move forward with the way that we submit work for moderation as one example.

We are looking into how we can include aspects and standards from the DT curriculum into our programmes more seamlessly. One example is for the Level on classes. In DVC there is a presentation standard that requires students to use computer programmes to create a presentation of their design. If the student can use a computer programme then they should be able to earn credits for using it well. This is a fantastic idea, especially since there is a discussion that Technology standards require a lot of work for credits in comparison to other subjects.

For our department to move, we need to utilise these changes and target credits that support the naturally occurring evidence from the standards we are currently offering. Sorry about the ling sentence.

So, these are the main points from the department meeting with Mr Green:

- keen to see schools move away from traditional written stuff and into more relevant teaching programmes

- assessment falling out of the work that is being done

- numbers of standards being assessed in tech is standing static

- none of the implementation standards require students to WRITE anything

- programme of work, creating a context

- mapping the programme to the standards

- Level one programme (due End of November Tuesday the 24th)
