Probs with the Year 9 Crazies
17.11.15
Spoke to Barbara this morning about my awful angry lesson yesterday. She teaches the wild Year 9’s and shared with me some awesome ideas about how to contain their wild ways. Barbara suggested that I focus on rewarding the good students by giving the very good ones ticks. I really like this idea because it is easy for a classroom to go stagnant and get that negative feeling.
It has been hard to keep the students on track with their learning because now they expect to have a boring and unproductive lesson that has growls in it.
The other issue is that I have been giving them projects that I know they can achieve in. It has been interesting because of course this is the ideal method, but I feel that in comparison to the other year nine class (wrong thing to say because there is no need comparing one class to the other)
Ideas for behaviour:
- cross for bad
- remove a cross when they are good
- tick for good behaviour
- sit at the centre table until they are ready for the computer
- if they are off task too much, back to the table for copy work. This way they can learn that there is a real consequence for the action, an immediate consequence.
