Another Technology department came to visit us.

Today a technology department came to visit us from a local school up the road. They were interested in how we work our multi levelled / multi subject classes as they are a small school and are looking at offering a technology course to their students next year.

The problem they have is that there are not enough students in this school taking technology - but all of the students that are taking technology are taking different strands. So, in one classroom, the students are offered the same achievement standards, and they are expected to provide the context of their learning for the standard.

I LOVE this idea. For the students sake, this is a dynamic and diverse leanring environment for them to work in. They are free to strive for their selected technology outcome in the strand of their choosing. I think that since it is project based learning, the student should be able to direst adn guide themselves, with facilitation from the teacher.

The only thing I oworry about is the fact that the teacher (me) may not have all the neccasary skills that the students are trying to investigate. It is hard because now that we have the internet techically the information is all there for the learning, but I would personally be nervous to have a range of projects (from cooking, sewing, metal, wood, DVC etc) in my room and keep them all on track / motivated. Hard, but potnetially very, very good.
