Notes on things to do different next time:

YEAR 9 GRA

- After learning about oath and iso, kids can pick their own image of a building that they have to draw on their own.

- There will be two sides visible and the other sides they can guess for themselves and fill in the gaps

YEAR 9 TECH

- As this time around, there will be a professional. BUT this time there will be a buddy system for printing based on work output and skill.

- Technological cycle at the start of each section of the projects

Slides about who they are

- Shows them sharing

- copy and paste

Activities week:

- Show kids ho to share a file on slides all together

- Each slide needs to have a couple of days dedicated to it - step by step

- Each slide needs to be done together, with a tutorial on the board on what I expect, how to do it and have it related back to the design process

- Laser cutter needs to be fixed

- Students need to print out their corel file on paper and text it first - functional modelling

- Do the materials testing after a concept has been created and then fill in a material selection slide

- Sign the board when doing materials testing - safety procedure

Report:

- Keep things simple

- 4 lessons

- structure of a report and what needs to be covered

- longer on what the issue is being covered

- intro one lesson, each idea following two lessons + evaluation last lesson

- go over the assessment details / success criteria as a class

Stag head activity:

- smaller groups - 5 there are not enough jobs for all the people

- aprons + cleaning cloths

Picture frame tutorial: USELESS

Multi layered art:

- Print out paper prototypes first to get them used to the idea of stacking for layers

YEAR 10 - all projects to have a title page

Tramping Hut + Tramping hut model (Model = 5-6 weeks):

- Clear brief + Brainstorm pages

- Teach students HOW to research AND create concepts from research (list off the parts they like from the research and apply that to their drawing ideas)

- Create the design on ketchup AFTER 3x different ideas have been drawn

- Research existing tramping huts - Google drive file

- Teach Corel (basics of cut line / hairline / exporting to print / matt board setting + 20% power)

- Sketchup laser model

- Paint the model? Create the model in scale

Presentation:

- research page

- screen shots of the sketchup hut

- 1 lesson per research piece

- Change ‘Type’ research to “Type and Shape”

Orthographic Speaker:

- Check the speaker lines up properly - eek

- Go over dimensioning as a class - dimensioning worksheet that shows staked dimensions

- Compass worksheet / practice sheet before using a compass in a real drawing

Paraline Speaker (3-4 lessons max):

- the praline drawing should be of a design they create themselves

Render:

- mini renders so that we can render with 4 different mediums on one page (chalk, pencil, coloured pencil and markers)

- one final render of an object of their choosing - maybe one they have drawn?

YEAR 11 - all projects to have a title page

Packaging / Skills:

- packaging needs to be more exciting / of something interesting

- students choose one of their fav things to package?

- cell phone package?

- Teach students HOW to research

- SAUCE research model

- Teach the students the difference between USING influence, INTEGRATING and INTEGRATING in a MEANINGFUL way

Product (Chair / DESK / Bird House / coffee table / book shelf / entertainment unit):

DESK WOULD BE BEST (with one curve at least)

DESK: Is there a way to incorporate a charger INTO the design?

What do you need at a desk??

- clear brief + brainstorm pages

- get the students to do 3x slides of research (1x bio on the designer and their style, 1x analysis of the designers work using design terminology, 1x page with the inspiration that inspires their chosen designer)

- 2x pages of explorative sketches of the designers inspiration that they have identified from the research - thumbnails developed from these sketches

- thumbnails once turned into proper concepts need to relate back to the

- Create a brief for a product that has more than one function

- Draw orthographic and Paraline off of this project

Teenage Space / Architects House:

- heavy focus on the development of this project - this is worth 6 credits and should not be left till the last minute

- kids were too stressed and lost focus / lost intent on what they were doing

Orthographic (3-4 weeks):

- do this at the start if the year

- they took a long time, will need a warm up exercise sometime

Section:

- this was a good accompany to the praline and students really understood it

- easy to do a section / tear away on a architectural design

Paraline:

- ran out of time. Will need to be completed earlier in the year

YEAR 12 - all projects to have a title page

Design Era + Designers from that Era:

- Look into the technologies and philosophy of the era. Make the students make a statement about the eras philosophy. Technologies of the tie lead the kids into the social aspects of the era

- 1 page of background of the era - highlighting basic information and social influences / the world at the time, the motivators behind the era’s birth

- 1 page of aesthetic and functional aspects of the era that define it. STATED CLEARLY

- 1 page of influential designers related to that era and their own extra personal touches / their inspirations

- 1 page of analysed (using design language) existing solutions

- 1 - 2 pages of thumbnail sketched reactions to the era COLLAGE SOME INSPIRATIONAL MATTER FROM THE CHOSEN ERA (sketching the inspirational motivators for the era, i.e.: organic - a page of feathers, sticks, leaves, organic matter. Pop Art - cultural icons of the age, colours, existing paintings etc.)

- THEN the explorative sketching can begin, sketched ideas that grow from the explorative sketching (traced parts of the collage / or shapes / forms emerging from the collage)

Pavilion / Architects House:

- clear brief + brainstorm pages

- SITE ANALYSIS

- Specialist spatial knowledge: Sun path knowledge, indoor outdoor flow, construction and joins, materials and material properties / aging of the material

- change brief to be less restrictive (remove modernism? make the floorpan larger?? Create a space that the viewing platform is on a second storey??)

- introduce ideation before research

- collage ideation + block ideation

- guide students through one example of how to create an idea from a abstract shapes

- Collage (tracing and cutting the trace to create a concept from)

- Block ideation build, 30 second sketch, 20mins

- after ideation exercises, do research into existing pavilions and apply that to the thumbnail ideas

- checklist for what needs to be developed (construction etc)

- construction research (guided)

- detail research (insulation, roofing construction, ground / foundation construction with legit references)

- building specifications

- Curves on the building so students can use co-ordinates

Floorplan:

- scale 1:50

Orthographic:

- A2, scale 1:50 3 views

- Setup without an orthographic 45 degree angle view change line,

- best done on the product design project as the opportunity for excellence is much greater with the

YEAR 13 - all projects to have a title page

Year Project:

- clear pages + titles (ideation, inspiration etc)

- clear brief + brainstorm pages + analysis

- 5x ideation opportunities (environment (nature + local buildings), existing solutions, collage?, blocks, legend or some written piece, audio piece?, paintings and design eras (based on the feedback from the client)

- Create a brief that requires a client and client feedback
