AHH! WORST NIGHTMARE.
I had news from one of the Deans (she has the ability to change students options) that two of my students are BORED and want to leave my year 10 DVC class.
The worst part - these students are two of my best workers / learners / students.
I am absolutely horriefied and way too offended with this news. I do not know how else to teach this particular skill (Orthographic) and want the students to move on but also want them to learn the skill properly before doing so.
It hurts quite a bit, and has plagued my mind for too long.
Today I spoke to the entire class (and the two that wanted to leave were spoken too quielty before hand) about WHY we are learning this skill. I reasoned with them telling them that this is how I had learnt, and this is how I know how to teach it, and the only real way to get it is to practice.
It felt much better after that discussion and I think levelling with them really helped. It is amazing how responsive the students can be whe you are real and genuine with them - they are after all human beings.
