Bored Students - UPDATE

AHH! WORST NIGHTMARE.

I have discovered - although I already knew and did not want to truly own up to it because it is scary.. - that my students are 'bored' becuase they are of all different levels and abilities and I have not been able to address those various needs in class.

We had been working on Orthogrpahic drawings which is a tricky skill to learn.

When asking my colleagues about the situation I am in, both of them said that I have set the bar waaay to high, and that this the cause of most of the anxiety and stress in the class.

Alot of students left my class, and although this is an AMAZING learning curve in terms of how I will structure the learning next year, it is vey tricky for me to gauge this as a positive at this stage.

In class, we have started on an individual assignment now where the students are designing an MP3. This was a panic project I must admit, and I am not entirely happy with the project itself.

BUT, the students seem to be alot happier. They are in class and working well. Their various levels are catered for in terms of how they complete the project, but I am still worried that I am not teaching them well, or showing them enough stuff to get them through.

This year 10 group has also highlighted some basic skill blockages that could be addressed in year 9 - not that this would help alot of the class who have never done DVC before. I am lucky in the sense that these kids are overall well behaved, and nice kids. If they were difficult with bad manners then the situation would be much more difficult to deal with.

Live and Learn.. I wish it was not so stressful.
