Students have completed their unit for the Year 12 research section.
They are required to complete an investigation into the relevant facts around an era. This presentation needs to have: Analysis of works from that era, exploratory sketches, basic description of that era + a slide at the end which states the overall characterisitcs of that era that they will use in their own student work.
The sucsessful factor in this unit was the slides at the start. These helped the kids understand and get an idea about what era they would like to do.
The things that I will do differently next time are as follows:
- Set the era's to be more specific. ie: Kids who are choosing Organic are struggling to find much info about it's origins and specific dates as it is an on going. evolving era and this makes it difficult for the kid to find exact material
- Go over each slide expectation during class. 1 slide a week??
- Get them to create a collage of the ideas, this was supposed to happen this time, but has turned into more of a mood baord approach and while good, the ideas could be clearer from a collage
- Show them specific examples of each era styled lamp. This way they can begin their design with more of an understanding of how the era looks applied to a design
- Have some arty eras in there to diversify the insperation
