In a months time, we are starting a new unit in class. This unit is about presentation and exhibitions. As always, it is much better to experience than to write about.

So, when Te Takare (a local community centre dedicated to awesomeness) put up a billboard advertising a lego exhibition created by Olafur Elliasson (http://olafureliasson.net/archive/artwork/WEK100849/the-cubic-structural-evolution-project) it was the perfect opportunity to take the students out to experience a fantastic situation.

It was a mad rush, on Friday I asked them if they would be interested, and on the Monday the trip had been approved. Tuesday permission forms were sent out and Thursday period 3 we were there. *Feuff

The planning was quick, and stressful. But overall, worth it as the students enjoyed the exhibition and were not too keen to leave. We got back to school late.

I think that even though there were 2 students who could not build with the lego blocks (I do not think they had lego when they were younger) they still enjoyed the atmosphere of the students who were getting stuck into the play.

We then went to a little discussion about the purpose of the exhibition, and learnt a little about the man that created it and how he created it. The students were not so intrigued on this bit, but they were all listening and represented the school well.

I am pleased that the day worked out, and that the students had a good time. It was wonderful to see some of the students who are normally a little introverted team up with some others and have good discussions about the lego and how they can play.

Bloody cool. Well worth it. EOTC is fantastic.

This experience also helped me with networking. The lady Brenda that hosted us gave me her card and said that is we ever needed an exhibition space ourselves (handy because yes we do!) that we can potentially use Te Takare to host the exhibition. FANTASTICO!

Then we had pizza, which was delicious.
