This term has been my first try at teaching Year 11's who are new to NCEA Level One. It has been really good having most of them as Year 11's as well, becuase I know of their previous ability, and I know what they know because I taught them!

So, when they came into Graphics this year, and started to ask many, many, many questions about what they needed to do, how they needed to do it, and 'how many pages do I need?' type questions, I had to remember the following to prevent my frustration:

- This is their first year of NCEA. Previous to this, these kids were doing little projects that were not particularly intense on expectations and they were given alot of time to get things done.

- They do not know what is expected, and they are nervous becuase they want to do well

- They trust me to provide them with the information, I am the only one they can ask

- Alot of these kids have not done the subject before, and therefore have NO IDEA what is expected

-Kids don't listen, therefore they have alot of questions

URKGH. It was highly frustrating at first, but until they get the process under their belts the questions will cease hopefully. I think it is important to remember that until the kids have done something, they will not understand the process fully until they get their marks back which tells them they are either doing good, or bad.

Patience. St like qualities.
