After marking externally last year, I now have alot more knowledge of what is expected for the standards and what I need to get them to do for their sketching throughout the year.
I feel like I am teaching to the standard a little, and this has stressed me out. Also, I am feeling a little guilty that becuase I have that extra experience, I am almost in the know more than the other teachers - Am I cheating? Although I have this thought in my mind, I am also feeling secretly happy becuase I am looking at the kids drawings, and they are doing so well!! I have 3x students that have had phonecalls home already for their great work. I am confident that their work is going well, and because now I know the expectation of the standard, and as well, now that I know the learning objective of the standard, I feel more in tune with what the purpose of the standard is.
Kids need to Visually communicate their ideas, and I think that this is happening well this year. There are some really cool ideas coming out of the woodwork here, and I am very proud of my students.
Things kids are putting in their work this year that was previously missing:
- Internal Views
- Section cuts
- Ideas with a sense of proportion
- Measurement
- The design in context
- Rendering
This was missing last year, and I am pleased that I can see it coming through now.
