Last night we had a meet the year 9 students and whanau night. This was a good time to answer any questions the parents might have about the subject I teach, and just to meet them. The stock image above is just an effort to visualise this story, and I can guarantee, that the parents and kids at the evening were definitely not at a church service.

It was awesome to introduce myself to the students and their families. It was nice to also see where the kids had come from, and to see the kids with their parents. The kids that are currently doing the best in class, were also the kids whose parents were at school with them on this night. This is almost a direct reflection of the situation that some of these kids are in, and this idea was expressed by a few of my workmates as well. There was also a nice bit of feedback from one of the parents to anther teacher who asked her:

"Are you the one who rang home about the good news that my kid had got on the wall of fame in graphics?? So cool!."

A worthwhile evening, and a good time to extend conversations about the kids and the purpose of the subject they are doing with me.
