Today, we visited Leivin's finest destination to do a site analysis for the Year 11 DVC - Horowhenua Lake. It was a good outing, and even though one of the students found an old rotten eel and starting chucking it around, they all seemed to benefit from actually visiting the site and making decisions for their design based on the site's requirements and existing factors.

It was good to talk to the students and hear their reflections on the changes they needed to make a why. A few of the students had mentioned that in class, they were drawing a tree as tall and as thick as they wanted, whereas, at the actual site, there were no trees of that scale so they would need to review their designs. This re-enforces the importance of getting out into the environment and learning by being in the space, and also, by doing rather than theorising.

A good trip, and not only that, the students did seem to love being out and about. It especially feels nice when the kids thank you - I like that bit.
