Positive focus in class

My most recent year 9 class have been pretty good, but there are a few kids who are quite negative in their attitudes and their work output. It is hard to feel like I want to help them when they are continually saying negative things are generally un-obliged to work.
I have started a tick system where each student gets a tick for listening, for waiting patiently and for being on their best behaviour / staying focused. It has been awesome to see the good ones enjoying their time in class. The difficult ones are generally responding well also, and are working to get ticks. Once they have 3x ticks, they get a point that contributes to their overall total in class.
At the end of the unit, I will get some Pizza or have a movie at lunchtime for the students that did really well in class. I am keen to make little invitations for them to attend and get a free lunch. This is a motivator, and since the kids don't know what they are going to get (if anything) then it is much better. I don't liek spending money on the kids, but a few treats and movie is not too bad.
