My girls from Poiapoia want to make things! This decision has come from the feeling I got after 2 weeks of drawing where they were happy, but the drawing was not a useful skill for them to have in their lives, and it felt like more of a time filler.
Exciting!
So, we will be going over to the workshop and making chopping boards together. I will pre-cut the wood, and the girls will smooth out the edges with a plane before laminating them together with good glue.
Once the pieces are clamped and setting, the girls will decide what design they want to be lasered into their boards, and we will do some work on the laser cutter while they wait.
When the boards are set, we will trim them (maybe using the drop saw which I am happy to show them, OR I will trim using the table saw), and begin to sand them. Once sanded, I will show them how to use the router and they can put an edge on their works if they wish.
After this, to the laser! Then, oil.
Walla, I cannot wait!! When I approached them with this idea, they were very excited, and the first lesson using Corel Draw went well. They are a great bunch, and are helpful to one another. Awesome start :) This weekend I will cut the wood to length and machine it ready. Wohoo!!
